You’ve heard that omega-3 fatty acids are good for you, but what do you know about omega-6s? An ideal ratio hasn’t been set, but “having the right balance of the two may reduce a woman’s risk of heart disease and hormone-related cancers like breast cancer, as well as lessen inflammation caused by chronic diseases,” says Lona Sandon, R.D., national spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association. Most Americans consume too many omega-6s and not
enough omega-3s. Hit the right proportion by incorporating both food groups into your diet.

HIGH IN OMEGA-6S
-Vegetable oils
-Margarine made with vegetable oils
-Salad dressings made with vegetable oils
-Snack foods (cookies, crackers or chips) made with vegetable shortenings
